47,500 signatures (and counting) for Grand Theft Auto 5 PC petition

A petition to cajole Rockstar into confirming a PC port of their upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5 has received over 47,500 signatures. The petition, created by Mike Juliard, is hoping to collect 100,000 votes of support. Based on the current rate of growth, that shouldn’t take long.
“GTA games have been a large part of so many peoples lives,” the petition rather grandly states, “and it’s a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform.”
It goes on to say that, “things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have.”
They’re not wrong about the mods. Previously, GTA4′s community has done some amazing things, like completely overhauling the lighting engine, adding a time-travelling Delorian, and letting you play as an elephant.
But is their any reason for PC owners to fret? Rockstar’s boss man, Dan Houser, has stated it’s “up for consideration“. Based on the pattern of both GTA4 and LA Noire, we’ll see it arrive months after the console versions. The fly in this slow-acting ointment is Red Dead Redemption, which never moseyed on into our saloon.
Let’s all take a moment to mourn the fact that we’ll never get to play Red Dead Redemption as a pachyderm.
Thanks, Joystiq
